What is this project? And what are we looking for?

Welcome to the Grinnell College Libraries Special Collections and Archives crowdsourcing page!  This project grew out of the success of the crowdsourcing table that we have staffed during Alumni Reunion, and the goal of this page is fairly straightforward:  we are asking for your help identifying the photos we post to this site.  Periodically, we will post photos from the college archives about which we know very little and ask for your help, and any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated!  Whether you are able to identify the people in the photo, where the photo was taken, the event being depicted, estimates of when the photo was taken, just type your comments in the post’s comment box, and we’ll add it to our files.  In the case where there are multiple people in a photo, we will label each person with a letter or number in order to try to reduce confusion and make it easier for you to identify specific people.  We will also add any known information to the post in the hope that it might spark a recollection.  Below is an example of the type of information we’re looking for:

Ethan Chun '12 receiving his diploma from President Raynard Kington

Ethan Chung ’12 (B) converted a graduation robe into a graduation cape to receive a well-deserved diploma from President Raynard Kington (A)

It is not necessary to format your comments in a specific way, nor are we necessarily looking for a narrative.  In the above example, something like, “A is Raynard Kington” would be great, but if you have a story related to this image (or if you’re Ethan and would like to give us more background information), we’ll happily add whatever you know to our files.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email us at archives@grinnell.edu

Thank you for your help!

hi! I like this project a TON! As someone who has changed names and pronouns since grinnell – I would REALLY encourage you to shift from using pronouns in this example UNLESS you know this person’s pronouns!

Thank you for your feedback, Lenni! We appreciate your support, and I have replaced the previous text with your suggested wording.
